Description: Norman Kent was a prominent artist, illustrator, and editor. He was best known for his exceptional block prints which he produced as woodcuts and linocuts. It is difficult to tell the techniques apart, and Kent often wrote the technique at the bottom of the sheet. This one appears to be a woodcut. The image is a late fall or winter scene in East Seneca, New York of a covered bridge. Kent enjoyed traveling through the rural areas of New York state away from the cities where he found a peaceful and idyllic contrast to the busy city life.

Norman A. Kent was a very talented painter, woodcut and linocut artist, illustrator and editor. He graduated with honors from the Mechanics Institute, Rochester, New York, in 1925. He was awarded a full scholarship to the Art Students League in New York where he studied under the master woodcut artist Allen Lewis and William De Leftwich Dodge.
After completing his education, Kent moved to Buffalo where he worked as a freelance artist and illustrator and continued to work on his art. His first one-man show was held in Buffalo at the Grosvenor Library in 1928. In 1929 Norman Kent moved to nearby Rochester and exhibited his art throughout the United States. His works can be found in many public and private collections.
